Diabetes advice for women with polycystic ovary syndrome: prevention, prevention, prevention

Polycystic ovary syndrome is the most common endocrine condition in reproductive-age women and is associated with a high risk of long-term metabolic conditions such as diabetes and cardiovascular disease. These patients present at a young age to the healthcare system with a variety of symptoms other than these metabolic conditions and, therefore, it should be embedded in our practice to monitor and prevent these complications. In this article, we review the association of polycystic ovary syndrome with Type 2 diabetes mellitus, identify the high-risk population and recommended interventions to reduce the risk of developing Type 2 diabetes mellitus in this patient group.
